i am a rising senior in high school and i'm considering taking a gap year after i graduate and serving for the nccc americorps. i feel the need to leave northern virginia and do something productive for those who really need it. i want to gain more life experiences and meet people from across the boarder.
my question is what are the things i need to pay out of my own pocket while serving full time for nccc?

That’s awesome to hear and the *NCCC is your best bet by far.  All basic needs are covered by AmeriCorps (lodging, travel, clothes, food, health insurance).  But, the food budget is low and so eating out was something I did frequently.  You have to pay for your own fun/leisure and toiletries, cell phone bill, and that sort of stuff.  You make about $300/month so it is possible.  I suggest saving about $1,500 before going so you can afford to live it up once in a while and also go on cool trips during vacations.

this is a great question and I’ll make a video about it as well.

keep it real
